The Guyana Independence Celebration Committee New York, in keeping with its lawful obligations as a United States registered not for profit, nonpartisan organization, has invited all Guyanese, Guyanese organizations and political parties, to join the New York celebration of Guyana’s Diamond Jubilee Anniversary of Independence, says committee Chairman, Mr. Rickford Burke, during an on Caribbean Power Jam Radio Station in New York earlier today.

The Diamond Jubilee celebration includes the Independence parade on June 7, 2026, in Brooklyn and the Awards Dinner later in June 2026.

Mr. Burke disclosed that “each year, we invite the government of Guyana, as well as the leaders from the various political parties in the Parliament of Guyana, to participate in the Independence celebration in New York.”

He said to date WIN and the APNU have responded positively and have registered to participate with a contingent and music truck/floats in the Parade. “These organizations have also indicated that their representatives will also attend the Award dinner. We welcome their participation,” Burke said.

Burke added that “apart from inviting the government to participate in the Diamond Jubilee Independence Celebration, we have also written President Irfaan Ali, in his capacity as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, and the Chief of Defence Staff Brigadier Omar Khan, requesting that members of the Guyana Defence Force be given permission to march in the parade as is customary, and are awaiting a response from the government.”

In calling for national unity, Burke emphasized that the celebration of our nation’s Independence is a national occasion, which must be devoid of political considerations.

“I therefore call on all Guyanese to eschew partisan politics at this time. Let us stand in unity and fire up the flames of national pride and celebrate Guyana to the world,” Burke added.
